In 2018 the Jeep Cherokee has eliminated the base trim, leading to the Latitude trim becoming the new base model. With the Sport trim gone the Latitude Plus model was added in with new features like 17-inch aluminum wheels, bright daylight opening moldings and body-color mirrors and door handles, roof rails, and more. More optional features have also been made available, like the passive entry/keyless go, ambient lighting, SiriusXM Radio, and much more! New standard safety features have been added, as well as a power liftgate.

What are the various model options?

The new lineup for 2018 Jeep Cherokee is Latitude, Latitude Plus, Trailhawk, Limited, and Overland. Standard features for any trim is a satellite radio, fold flat rear seats that are capable of moving forward and back for more legroom, and passive keyless entry with push-button starting. Highlights of the Latitude model are a 5-inch touchscreen interface, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, and more. The Latitude Plus bumps the Latitude’s touchscreen up to an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, adds ambient interior lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 115-volt power outlet behind the center console. For off-roading, Trailhawk is the trim you want. The Trailhawk comes with all-terrain tires, off-road-oriented suspension tuning, skid plates, tow hooks, and so much more that will help with keeping you going when not on the pavement. As for special technical features, the Trailhawk has Siri Eyes Free and smartphone-app integration, rear cross-traffic detection and parking sensors, and a dual-zone automatic climate control. The Limited is a step up from Trailhawk. This trim loses the off-road hardware to add extra luxury with a wiper de-icer, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated front seats. At the top of the list, we have the Overland with a navigation system, cornering lights, upgraded leather upholstery, and a sound-deadening windshield to name a few of its features. Additional packages are available as well, including the Technology group package and the safety-oriented package.

What is the standard engine and are there other options?

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee has a standard 2.4-liter Tigershark engine with 184 hp on all of its models, but the Overland, which uses a 3.2-liter V6 with 271 hp. This engine is optional for all other models. The 2.4-liter Tigershark engine can tow 2,000 lbs, while the 3.2-liter V6 offers best-in-class towing at 4,500 lbs. Both engines come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and the option to be front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive option has three systems to choose from, Jeep Active Drive I with a single-speed transfer, Active Drive II with a two-speed transfer, or Active Drive Lock, which is only for the Trailhawk with its rock mode in the Selec-Terrain system. The 2018 Cherokee offers a smooth ride on and off the pavement with easy upshifts and ready downshifts.

What are some of the safety feature options?

In 2018 the Jeep Cherokee adds some new standard safety features like cross path detection, blind-spot monitoring, and ParkSense rear backup warning. For more safety features a Safety-Oriented package is available as well. This package includes radar-based cruise control, forward collision warning with crash mitigation, lane departure warning, and auto high-beam. The Safety-Oriented package also comes with an automatic parking system that can park you perpendicular or parallel.
