Pickup trucks have grown over the years, moving from purely workhorses to something more luxurious and capable. This growth has led to a higher expectation of these machines, and as such, a harder time in figuring out which pickup truck is right for you. In order to make the process easier, we’ve chosen two of the top pickup trucks in the segment! These trucks include the 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. In order to find out which of these trucks is best for you, we’ll be comparing them to one another, and figuring out which one gives you the best features and engine options. To start, both trucks have been completely redesigned in the 2019 model year, adding in the latest technology, and making the trucks more fuel efficient. To find out which truck comes out on top, then keep reading down below!

2019 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

The first thing to consider with a pickup truck is the available engines. The first engine offered with the Ram 1500 is a 3.6-liter V6, which can pump out 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes with an eTorque mild-hybrid system. The second available engine is a 5.7-liter V8, which can generate 410 pound-feet of torque and 395 horsepower. Both two-wheel and four-wheel drive are available, and you’ll also get an eight-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy is impressive with the V8 engine, with 2WD giving you 15/22 mpg, and 4WD offering 15/21 mpg.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Power & Handling

The Silverado truly has plenty of engines available, and in this instance, it seems like there are just too many engines to choose from. The first engine is a 4.3-liter V6, which can create 305 lb-ft of torque and 285 horsepower. This engine works with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Next up is a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, which can pump out 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. This engine upgrades to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Even more powerful is a 5.3-liter V8 engine, producing 383 lb-ft of torque and 355 horsepower, which also works with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The final engine is a 6.2-liter V8, which produces 460 lb-ft of torque and 420 horsepower, which works with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Ram 1500 Features & Design

Where choice truly matters is with trim level options. The 2019 Ram 1500 comes in 7 options. The first of these is known as the Tradesman, which comes with an auxiliary audio jack, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, a 40/20/40-split folding bench seat, push-button ignition, trailer sway control, a locking tailgate, dual USB inputs, a 5-inch touchscreen, rear-seat USB charge ports, air conditioning, cruise control, heated side mirrors, a Class III hitch receiver, and automatic headlights. Another trim level that you should consider is the Big Horn, which comes with Apple CarPlay, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, side steps, an air suspension, a 60/40-split folding rear bench seat, floor carpet, fog lights, Android Auto, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, power-adjustable pedals, LED headlights and taillights, cloth upholstery, and 18-inch alloy wheels. An off-roading option is the Rebel, which adds hill descent control, an electronic-locking rear axle, skid plates, off-road tires, a 3.92 axle, fortified shocks and suspension, and front tow hooks.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Features & Design

Eight trim levels are available with the 2019 Silverado. The first of these is the WT, which comes with a USB port, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen interface, air conditioning, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a tilt-only steering column, and 17-inch steel wheels. Another trim level to consider is the LTZ, which comes with HD radio, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a navigation system, two 120-volt power outlets, a heated tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a higher-definition rearview camera, driver-seat memory settings, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a trailer brake controller, and power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors. The highest available Silverado trim is High Country, which comes with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, a power-sliding rear window, ventilated front seats, a spray-on bedliner, a power-up-and-down tailgate, 20-inch chrome wheels, blind-spot monitoring, wireless phone charging, heated second-row seats, a 7-speaker Bose audio system, chrome side step rails, and front and rear parking sensors.

Conclusions

For us, it is clear who the winner is among these two pickup trucks. The 2019 Ram 1500 has it all, including seven trim levels, and two reliable engines that give you the power you need, no matter the task. The Silverado simply oversaturates itself with too many engine options, and far too many trim levels. The Ram 1500 can out muscle the Silverado on its worst day.
