2020 Jeep Compass vs 2020 Ford Escape near Spring, TX

Adding an SUV to your life can be the difference-maker in creating drives and adventures that are fun again. No one wants to be driving a vehicle that doesn’t offer the latest features, can’t handle off-roading environments, and is simply just a bore. That is why we are here to check out two of the top competitors in the SUV segment to figure out which one you should be driving home, to work, and everywhere in between. The first vehicle we’re taking a look at is the 2020 Jeep Compass, which features an attractive and easy-to-use tech interface, roomy seating, and a trim level called the Trailhawk that is perfect for off-roading. On the other side we have the fully redesigned 2020 Ford Escape, which offers an updated design, great powertrain options, and sliding 2nd-row seats. Keep reading to learn which of these vehicles you should add to your life.

2020 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

Everyone knows that Jeep vehicles bring it when it comes to power and capability. That is why it should be no shock that the Compass comes with a great standard engine that is sure to impress. This engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, which has the ability to output 175 pound-feet of torque and 180 horsepower. You’ll be able to pair this engine with a few different options, including three unique transmissions, and either FWD or AWD. The transmission options include a six-speed manual transmission, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a nine-speed automatic transmission. No matter what your needs are, the 2020 Compass is ready to impress.

2020 Ford Escape Power & Handling

Ford is stepping up its game with a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. This engine replaces a similar option that came with the Escape in the previous model year. You’ll be getting around 190 pound-feet of torque and 181 horsepower with the base engine. We aren’t a big fan of a 3-cylinder engine, which makes this move slightly confusing. There is another engine available, which is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, which generates 280 pound-feet of torque and 250 horsepower. The standard transmission is an eight-speed automatic, which means you do not get a choice when it comes to the transmission option.

2020 Jeep Compass Features & Design

There are four available trim levels that are offered with the Compass, which means four opportunities to truly get it right. The standard trim, Sport, comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, height-adjustable front seats, heated mirrors, Apple CarPlay, 1st- and 2nd-row USB ports, automatic dual-zone climate control, Android Auto, a 6-speaker sound system, and a 60/40-split rear bench. Another available model is Limited, which features an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, a 115-volt household-style power outlet, and 8.4-inch touchscreen, a heated steering wheel, and a color information display. The Trailhawk trim, an off-roading model, adds off-road-oriented tires, a Selec-Terrain system, a raised suspension, and skid plates.

2020 Ford Escape Features & Design

Four trims can also be found with the 2020 Escape. Some of the standard features with the S trim include manual climate control, cloth front bucket seats, 2nd-row sliding seats, a 6-speaker audio system, six cupholders, lane keeping assist, and a 4.2-inch instrument cluster. When you opt for the SE model, you’ll find a 10-way power driver seat with front row heat, an optional panoramic roof, an optional remote start system, and the SYNC 3 system. At the top of the lineup sits Titanium. This option throws in features like a 10-speaker B&O Sound system with a subwoofer, Active Park Assist 2.0, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist. While the Escape does have features to offer, we’re still partial to the trim lineup of the Compass, especially with the Trailhawk trim.
